About Me
Hi, my name is Christine Avalos, but I go by Rubi—it’s my middle name. I’m a Mental Health Counselor Associate supervised by Mathew Bierds with experience working with children, teens, and adults. My clinical background includes substance abuse treatment, group therapy, crisis intervention, and private practice. I’m deeply passionate about supporting others through life’s challenges with compassion and empathy. I understand that starting counseling can feel overwhelming and intimidating, so I aim to make the process as comfortable and supportive as possible as we begin this journey toward your most authentic self.
From a young age, I knew I was meant to help others. That calling led me to earn my bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Business from the University of Texas at El Paso. Still driven to do more, I went on to earn my master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Grand Canyon University. While I wasn’t always sure what form that calling would take, becoming a counselor has been a meaningful and fulfilling path.
I believe healing is a journey—one that comes with both ups and downs. My goal is to walk alongside you in that process, equipping you with the tools and resources you need to move closer to your goals each day. Together, we’ll work toward creating positive, lasting change in your life.

How long is a session?
How do I book a session?
How do you handle rescheduled / canceled appointments?
We understand life happens! There are times when emergencies happen and everyone has a 1 time 24hr reschedule coupon. Once that is used up, please respect your confirmed session time. In any other emergency, kindly give 24 hour’s notice to make any adjustments to appointments to reschedule. Cancellations and re-scheduled sessions will be subject to a full charge if NOT RECEIVED AT LEAST 24 HOURS IN ADVANCE. This is necessary because a time commitment is made to you and is held exclusively for you. If you are late for a session, you may lose some of that session time.
What can I expect from our first session?
What is the therapeutic process?
You have taken a very positive step by deciding to seek therapy. The outcome of your treatment depends largely on your willingness to engage in this process, which may, at times, result in considerable discomfort. Remembering unpleasant events and becoming aware of feelings attached to those events can bring on strong feelings of anger, depression, anxiety, etc. There are no miracle cures. I cannot promise that your behavior or circumstance will change. I can promise to support you and do my very best to understand you and repeating patterns, as well as to help you clarify what it is that you want for yourself.
Do you accept insurance?
