About Me
Hi, my name is Christine Avalos, but I go by Rubi—it’s my middle name. I’m a Mental Health Counselor Associate supervised by Mathew Bierds with experience working with children, teens, and adults. My clinical background includes substance abuse treatment, group therapy, crisis intervention, and private practice. I’m deeply passionate about supporting others through life’s challenges with compassion and empathy. I understand that starting counseling can feel overwhelming and intimidating, so I aim to make the process as comfortable and supportive as possible as we begin this journey toward your most authentic self.
From a young age, I knew I was meant to help others. That calling led me to earn my bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Business from the University of Texas at El Paso. Still driven to do more, I went on to earn my master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Grand Canyon University. While I wasn’t always sure what form that calling would take, becoming a counselor has been a meaningful and fulfilling path.
I believe healing is a journey—one that comes with both ups and downs. My goal is to walk alongside you in that process, equipping you with the tools and resources you need to move closer to your goals each day. Together, we’ll work toward creating positive, lasting change in your life.

How long is a session?
Each tele-health session will last 50 minutes. Please make sure to be on time.
How do I book a session?
Booking an online session is easy! Fill out our contact form and let us know your time preference and day availability and we will reach out to you!
How do you handle rescheduled / canceled appointments?
We understand that life can be unpredictable!
Each client is given a one-time 24-hour reschedule pass for emergencies. After that, we kindly ask that you honor your scheduled session time.
If you need to cancel or reschedule, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice. Changes made with less than 24 hours’ notice—or missed appointments—will be charged in full, as your session time is reserved exclusively for you.
Please also note that late arrivals may result in a shortened session.
What can I expect from our first session?
This is your time—to be heard, understood, and supported.
Our first session is a chance to explore what’s bringing you to counseling and what you hope to gain from it. If you’re ready to begin a journey of self-discovery and growth, we’ll work together using psychoeducation, nervous system regulation, and practical coping strategies to help you thrive in every area of your life.
What is the therapeutic process?
Choosing to begin therapy is a courageous and positive step forward.
The success of this journey depends on your openness and active participation, and at times, the process may feel challenging. As we explore past experiences and the emotions tied to them, it’s normal to encounter feelings such as anger, sadness, or anxiety.
While there are no quick fixes, I’m here to walk alongside you with empathy and care. I can’t guarantee specific outcomes or changes, but I can promise to fully support you, help identify patterns in your life, and work with you to gain clarity on what you truly want for yourself.
Do you accept insurance?
At this time, this service is not available, but it may be offered in the future—I’ll be sure to keep you informed!
In the meantime, we do provide Superbills that you can submit to your insurance provider to inquire about possible reimbursement.
What forms of payment do you accept?
All major credit cards
Do you offer a sliding scale?
Sliding scale is offered on an as-needed basis to those who qualify, and qualification is evaluated every two months. Sliding scale is limited to availability of slots.
What are my scheduling options, what hours are you available?
7am-7pm, Monday through Friday
How long will I need to be in therapy?
Therapy works best when we work together.
If you’re looking for short-term, solution-focused support, it’s helpful to set clear goals with your therapist. This keeps us both on track and accountable throughout the process.
Everyone’s journey is different, so the length of therapy depends on what you’re hoping to work on. We’ll talk more about that after your first session so we can find the approach that fits you best.
